Department of Endocrinology consists of two inpatient and one outpatient units. Inpatient units are department of Pediatric Endocrinology and department of Adult Endocrinology, comprising subdivisions of Diabetology and General Endocrinology. Outpatient department delivers secondary and tertiary level healthcare services in endocrinology and pediatric endocrinology to all patient groups with a yearly turnover of around 60000 patients. Diabetology sector focuses on management of diabetes, metabolic syndrome and obesity, aiming at therapeutic patient education, prevention and treatment of diabetes complications. Patients with thyroid, pituitary, parathyroid, adrenal disorders and rare endocrine diseases are investigated and treated in the sector of General Endocrinology.
Department of Pediatric Endocrinology is the only one of its kind in Lithuania. Children with diabetes and endocrine disorders, such as adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid glandsdiseases, hypopituitarism, obesity, metabolic syndrome and disorders of sex development are investigated and treated in this department.
Complex diagnostic tests are performed for diagnosis of rare endocrine and genetic disorders. Two diabetes schools for children and adults are fuctioning at the Department of Endocrinology, where patients with diabetes and their families are educated to manage their disease.

The course of endocrinology and diabetes carried out in cooperation with departments of surgery, radiology, biochemistry and laboratory medicine is included into compulsory curriculum of the 4th year of the undergraduate program. Elective studies in diabetes and general endocrinology are available for 6th year students. Residents in internal medicine have a 2 month rotation in the Department of Endocrinology. Overall residency training programme duration in Endocrinology is four years, in Pediatric Endocrinology – five years.

In a close collaboration with Institute of Endocrinology a number of scientific projects are carried out continuously, mostly focusing on diabetes, insulin resistance, growth disorders, thyroid diseases, reproductive endocrinology and metabolic diseases. At the Endocrinology Department, there are 3 professors, 4 associate professors, 13 physicians have a doctorate degree; 5 endocrinologists and 2 pediatric endocrinologists and a nurse diabetes educator are PhD students.
