The emergency Department in the Hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno klinikos provides medical care for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and exceeds patient volume by 84.000 visits per year. It is the first-level Trauma Center in the City and County of Kaunas with 500 severe (ISS>15) trauma activations per year. In addition, the Emergency Department is the provider of trauma care for the central-western part of Lithuania and thus has a service area of 1.5 million people. The Emergency Department is prepared and equipped to provide comprehensive and efficient emergency care to patients with critical and acute illnesses and injuries. Services for patients with stroke, femur fractures, and MI are provided in the Fast Track section of our Emergency Department.
The emergency Department will have a new building that is scheduled to open in May 2015. This will be the new home of a larger ED that will have more space (5000 m2) and an increased number of acute care beds as well as dedicated CT scanners and specialized rooms that will build upon our focus on patient-centered care.
