Department of Gastroenterology is the largest digestive diseases clinic in Baltic States (60 in-patent beds), where the care for all complicated liver and digestive system diseases (including oncology and liver pre-transplant and post-transplant care) are provided for Lithuania and foreign citizens. Department of Gastroenterology includes two units - Gastroenterology and Endoscopy unit. Clinic is equipped with modern endoscopy and ultrasound equipment for diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders according to EU university clinics standards.

Department of Gastroenterology successfully applied new diagnostic and treatment methods. In recent years new invasive hepatology methods were introduced into clinical practice.
The Liver transplantation program in Gastroenterology Department is implemented since the year 2001. Transplantations are realized in cooperation with Department of Surgery.
Center for Rare Gastrointestinal and liver diseases was established in 2011 and takes care for patients with Wilson’s disease, hereditary hemochromatosis, Budd-Chiari syndrome, hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, microscopic colitis and other rare diseases.
Genetic testing is available for rare liver diseases.

Inflammatory bowel diseases: ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease (epidemiology, genetics, microbiota, clinical trials).
Diseases associated with H.pylori – atrophic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer, (epidemiology, microbiology, genetics, clinical trials).
Rare gastrointestinal and liver diseases (Wilson's disease, hemochromatosis, Budd-Chiari syndrome and other rare diseases).
Molecular biomarkers of premalignant and malignant gastrointestinal diseases.
